Bolton bakery puts hygiene first with Altro

Bolton craft bakery, Greenhalgh’s, has converted an old mill building into a state of the art food hygiene standard amenity block — where Altro safety flooring and hygienic wall cladding have been fitted throughout to create the ultimate sterile, hygienic environment for employees preparing to enter the production area.
The new amenity block, which includes toilets, changing facilities, locker and break rooms and laundry, has been built to satisfy the ever-more stringent requirements of the BRC food safety accreditation that will enable Greenhalgh’s to continue working with all major retailers.
Greenhalgh’s chief engineer, John Hurst, specified the Altro products: “To meet these standards we needed materials to be durable, high quality, easy to clean, and with proven hygiene credentials. It’s also very important to present the right image, so products that look stylish, modern and professional are essential. Altro ticked all these boxes for us.”
“We selected Altro Whiterock White, with Altro Whiterock Satins in various shades to create feature walls, which look very striking. The safety flooring we chose was Altro Reliance 25. It’s a very reliable, good looking product.”
The design and build project was delivered by Schofield & Sons. Commercial Manager David Porter said: “We have fitted Altro Whiterock White before in sterile areas where hygiene is a major concern, and it’s second to none. Instead of hot welding the joints, we used Whiterock Flexijoint™, which are PVC strips that fit tightly between each sheet of product to form a tight seal.
“The back-up and service from Altro was also excellent. They went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed.”
John Hurst added: “We are very pleased with our new facility. It looks superb, it’s very easy to maintain, and we are delighted that a recent audit has enabled us to maintain our BRC accreditation.”
