Altro solutions ensure wellbeing in sheltered homes

Issue
Farupvej is a unique residence in Denmark providing specifically designed homes for disabled residents.
The homes provide comfortable dwellings for people with physical and mental disabilities. After many years of constant use the homes were in need of some TLC. The sheltered housing at Farupvej need to promote a calm, secure, homely environment with as little architectural noise as possible. Every resident has their own entrance and garden and the homes have been thoughtfully designed.
Approach
The residents may have particular behavioural needs and require stability and tranquility. It is therefore important that the construction products used are safe, strong and cannot be used for self-harm or destructive behaviour.
The design architects selected the construction firm Vallentin Haugland to complete the build. Altro safety floors were utilised for the 2,000m² flooring space which included residents bathrooms, lounge areas, communal kitchen and hallways.
Solution
The bathrooms were installed with Altro Aquarius, providing a soft and safe environment. Altro Aquarius was developed for lasting performance in wet and dry, shoes or barefoot.
Altro Stronghold 30 was installed in the kitchen. It can withstand being used and washed daily.
Altro Wood Safety, Altro Suprema and Altro Walkway 20 were used in the remaining areas.
The products work well with every day usage and at the same time are aesthetically pleasing.
Altro Aquarius achieves Class B to DIN 51097 for barefoot use, plus a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of ≥50 (Slider 96), providing optimum lifetime sustained slip resistance in shoes and barefoot, in areas where users are most vulnerable.
Altro Stronghold 30 (PTV ≥55, R12) and is designed to minimise slip risk in areas exposed to grease, oils and fats for the lifetime of the flooring.
Altro Walkway 20 has 42 colours and achieves PTV ≥ 36 on the pendulum test giving sustained slip resistance throughout the lifetime of the product.
Altro Wood Safety is a wood-look, sparkle-free safety floor with a palette of 20 colours.
Altro Suprema is a stunning, non-sparkle floor with 40 colour options.
