A safe system for good design

Each area of an intercity train has different needs and uses, and good design will reflect this. This year, we’ve been exploring ways in which Altro can help you save weight across your train set. We also firmly believe that a saving on weight doesn’t have to mean scrimping on performance – after all, the best things come in small packages.

We’ve shown below how you can use the whole Altro rail portfolio to make sure each area of your train performs to its highest capability.

Vestibules

As the area where passengers get on and off the train, where excess luggage is stored, and where passengers might stand on busy services, the vestibule takes a pounding. With the risk of water being tracked inside on wet or snowy days and spilled drinks or other contaminants, this area needs to be able to stand up to slip resistance regulations and be easy to clean.

We suggest: Altro Transflor Tungsten

Why? Altro Transflor Tungsten is a tough floor with excellent slip resistance, and equipped with Altro Easyclean technology for ease of cleaning. Choose a darker colour to hide any dirt tracked in, but why not try Vortex or Firestorm, which are black with coloured quartz crystals?

Toilet

The toilet is often a small area, but needs to make a good impression. With the risk of contaminants, and passengers on their feet while the train is moving, providing a good level of slip resistance is paramount. A chipped or textured design to help hide dirt is also a good idea.

We suggest: Altro Transflor Met

Why? Altro Transflor Met offers a good slip resistance rating (PTV ≥36), with a choice of a chipped or quartz finish, and is protected by Altro Easyclean technology for stain resistance. Choose your own colour to blend in or match your livery. We would also recommend using our kit cutting service to make installation even easier.

Saloon

Here is your opportunity to go wild with design and create the interior to make your passengers feel at home. The flooring can’t just look good, it needs to offer the right level of safety and be resistant to stains and odours.

We suggest: Altro Transflor Met

Why? With Altro Transflor Met you’ve got design possibilities as wide as your imagination. Choose colours to match your livery or create a nice contrast, perhaps even go for a patterned finish, like Grand Central in their saloon cars. With stain and odour resistance, and a good slip resistance rating, we would always recommend a resilient floor over a carpet to ensure a clean and fresh environment for top marks for passenger experience.

Buffet car

Where passengers and staff alike will be on their feet while the train is moving, it is paramount that your chosen train floor achieves a sustained pendulum test value of 36 or more. In areas such as the buffet car, where countless contaminants threaten the floor, slip resistance is of even more importance. Further to this, any chosen flooring solution must be easy to clean and stain resistant. As passengers from all over the train will be making their way to this car, good and clear signposting for wayfinding is useful.

We suggest: Altro Transflor Tungsten

Why? Altro Transflor Tungsten is the safest rail flooring product on the market with a pendulum test value of greater than or equal to 40. Protected by Altro Easyclean technology, you’ll never have to worry about food stains ruining the floor, and with a palette of 13 colours, staff and passenger areas can be easily demarcated. All Altro rail flooring products are available for use with our kit cutting and logo service, so why not consider cutting your signposting into the floor?
