Kit out your bus for design, safety, and practicality

Looking to streamline installation and save on waste, all while taking your bus design from normal to next level? Altro’s logo and pre-cut flooring service is the solution you’ve been looking for. From a flash of colour to a marked out area for safety, our cutting service can help you realise any design idea, and simplify your installation in the process.

Using a CAD drawing of your vehicle our in-house cutting technology will map out the required pieces in the most economical way to minimise waste and deliver your desired floor in pre-cut pieces ready for installation.

Strike a design

Although safety and practicality are strong priorities of ours, we also appreciate the value of great looking design. You can utilise our pre-cut flooring service to create striking and memorable designs on your vehicles.

Optare used contrasting tramlines on their Versa and Solo demonstration vehicles to elongate the space and flaunt the vehicles’ airy design.

Abellio, in their London fleet, and Reading Buses used contrasting colours to distinguish the gangways and seating areas on their city buses. These weren’t just great ideas for demarcation, but also useful for hiding areas with increased dirt pickup.

A great way to mark out designated areas for wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs, or any other feature you’d like to highlight on your vehicle is a separate section cut into the floor in a contrasting colour. Altro have provided countless pre-cut logos for use in vehicles across the world, from the Greater Wellington Regional Council fleet in New Zealand to the Abellio fleet in London, UK. Here at Altro we can provide the logo pre-set into your contrasting colour of choice, cut to size and ready to stick down in your vehicle.

Make sure that, when using contrasting colours, that the LRV point difference is not more than 30. This avoids creating the illusion of a hazard for passengers with visual impairments.

Using our in-house cutting technology, we can create any logo you can think of. Beyond marked out passenger areas, why not consider using flooring to show where phone charging points or parent and child friendly seats are located?

Brand focus

Any logo you can think of does, of course, include your own. With our logo cutting we aren’t just limited to simple shapes, but also have the capability to cut text in a range of different fonts. Your company logo, a product name (as with Optare’s Versa and Solo demonstration vehicles), company values or even stops on a route.

We are proud to provide our pre-cut flooring and logo solution to you because of all the great benefits it allows us to offer. Smart, practical and striking design without limits is within easy reach, but this service also ensures a far more streamlined installation saving you time, money and unnecessary waste. Why not save even more time and labour, and give our self-adhesive solution a try, too?

Clean up your transport floors like new

We know that as a transport operator, keeping your floors in tip-top condition is a high priority to maintain a safe and pleasant travel environment for your passengers. To give you the best advice, we spoke to our colleagues at our sister company, Autoglym. Michael Rutherford, Commercial Manager for Autoglym Professional Key Accounts, gave us his advice for cleaning up your floors like new.

Use a quality product

Here at Altro we recommend our AltroClean 44 and AltroClean 44+ for use with our floors, but we’ve also seen excellent results using the Autoglym Professional range. A quality product is essential to ensure not only that you’re using your time as efficiently as possible when cleaning, but to achieve the best results both for the appearance and maintained slip resistance of your chosen floor.

Check your method

A standard daily clean is easier than you think! When using Autoglym 56 Express Wash, simply spray the area with 25:1 diluted product and leave to dwell for 2-3 minutes. You can leave this on for longer, if you feel you need to – just don’t let the product dry onto the floor! If you don’t have a sprayer, you can also apply product using a mop and bucket. After the dwelling time, simply mop off the product using clean water. If you applied the product using a mop and bucket, ensure you dry mop the area afterwards to make sure there is no product left on the floor after cleaning, as this can result in a chemical residue being left on the flooring.

Deep clean

A regular deep clean is key to removing the more stubborn dirt and maintaining the finish of your floor. After spraying the area with 15:1 diluted Autoglym 56 Express Wash and leaving to dwell, agitate the area using a deck scrub or hard bristled brush to lift the more ingrained dirt. Then, mop the floor with clean water to remove both the product and the lifted dirt. A deep clean of about once a month should be enough to keep your floors looking good as new!

Make your flooring design work for you

Are you missing powerful opportunities for design on your rail vehicles?

Flooring choice is an integral part of ensuring that your vehicle performs at the highest level possible. Your flooring selection not only sets the tone for the entire feel of the carriage, but also ensures you meet the relevant slip resistance and fire safety regulations. We like to see that as the bare minimum, as there’s so much more your flooring can do for you…

A vehicle of distinction

We offer a wide colour palette with our entire rail flooring portfolio to allow you to create different environments within the same branding guidelines. Using different colours to demarcate different areas is a great way to differentiate, but to take it one step further, use colour to evoke different types of ambience.

We can create Altro Transflor Met in any colour you wish, and a selection of design patterns. Grand Central made great use of our custom colour service on their intercity trains. In the standard class saloons, they designed a lively composition with a vivacious firework pattern in brilliant colours to help give a bit of spark to standard class journeys. The saloons have that extra feeling of novelty which helps create a positive passenger experience. In first class, we devised a deep, regal purple with an understated geometric pattern. In high traffic areas such as the gangways, a patterned resilient floor is a great way to maintain the pattern complexity available with carpet but ensure safety and ease of cleaning. These designs look great, and are working overtime for safety, practicality, and helping to create an environment where passengers feel valued.

In those areas where a simple colour change is too subtle, we can provide pre-cut logos to demarcate important areas.

Lead the way

As well as cutting logos in house, we can also cut full flooring designs. Our innovation at Porterbrook’s Innovation Hub in 2019 centred around exactly this: we used our in-house cutting technology to create an environment where all the stress was taken out of train travel and passengers felt valued.

On entering the carriage, we showed how flooring design can be used to quickly show passengers to points of interest on a vehicle to minimise stress around not being able to find the area they need. This design can be applied to any important area of any train, be that the buffet car, toilets, or any innovative areas on board. This particular design was cut into new, high performance Altro Transflor Motus, with Altro Transflor Tungsten in custom colours to create a bold contrast. While this design may be a quirky novelty for some, it acts as a lifeline for others who may be nervous travellers or need to get to certain areas quickly. Designs which show that operators are thinking about passengers’ needs are a great way to make passengers feel appreciated.

Partnering for possibilities

Here at Altro we are proud to be at the forefront of innovation when it comes to passenger-focused developments. We can produce flooring designs to fulfil any need or novelty, so contact us to find out what’s possible. Our rail flooring portfolio has the versatility to create any design you care to think of, so test us out – we would love to explore the possibilities of performance with you.
