The chocolate factory tour for flooring

Our guest blogger, Lauren Aizlewood-Clow, reports on her day at one of Altro’s Voice of the Customer events.

It’s not every day you get to go inside the factory and to talk frankly about what you like and don’t like about a product range but these were the highlights of a great day at Altro. They’ve been one of our regular suppliers for many years and we were really interested to meet some of the team and to see how safety flooring is actually made.

After some meeting and greeting at the Letchworth site we went on a lab tour. I found it eye-opening to learn exactly how much rigorous testing each item of flooring goes through. Then, at the Altro Possibilities Studio it was interesting to learn about the potential for Altro products in different mental health care settings.

My highlight was definitely the factory tour. It was literally like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory but for flooring! Our tour guide was a real font of knowledge. We saw some flooring go from a paste to the finished article - wrapped, sealed and tucked up in the warehouse ready to be shipped. It really was a fascinating experience. And we were very impressed with Altro’s recycling process.

We ended our day meeting some of the Altro HQ staff, hearing more about what they do and sharing our specific experiences and views of the products.

All in all, it was a fun, inspiring day. Wherever you walk within the Altro building you see examples of their products and there is a lovely atmosphere.
