Altro’s jumbo project

AltroTect Plus, a solvent-free epoxy resin coating, was chosen for its resistance to Skydrol, an aviation hydraulic fluidA huge 11,968m² of AltroTect Plus was recently installed in Monarch Aircraft Engineering's state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance facility at Birmingham Airport. If you're struggling to imagine just how big that is, picture a space large enough for a jumbo jet to make a u-turn.

AltroTect Plus, a solvent-free epoxy resin coating, was chosen for its resistance to Skydrol, an aviation hydraulic fluid. This was paramount to the specification selection. Also important was the flooring's resistance to abrasion, as planes are regularly moved around. A third key requirement was slip resistance. AltroTect Plus contains a micaceous mineral, which lightly textures the surface to provide grip and help keep staff safe.

The installation was completed by Central Flooring Services. Richard Jinks, Commercial Director at Central Flooring Services, said: "With a job of this size, you need to know that the manufacturer is behind you all the way, assisting with specification, damp testing and quality control, from preparation to hand over. Altro were first class and professional. The floor was handed over ahead of schedule; both Monarch Aircraft Engineering and the main contractor, John Sisk & Sons Ltd, were very pleased!"
